9th & Elm, SugarLips

I was extremely excited when I was contacted a few weeks ago by 9th&Elm to collaborate on an outfit post.  I have to be honest though….  I had not heard of the site before but… once I took a moment to check them out and realize the concept…  I knew that I would have no problem finding pieces that I would love!

9th & Elm, SugarLips9th&Elm is a flash sale site that hosts the best handmade, independent and just otherwise cool designers!  The site was founded in 2013, with the idea of delivering its members (and membership is free btw) fabulous handmade fashion picks directly to their inboxes.  There is an awesome selection of designers and items… from clothes, jewelry, handbags to much, much more.  And shipping is free – every day!!!

9th & Elm, SugarLips

There were so many fabulous pieces to choose from that I had a hard time picking just one thing…. but I ultimately decided on this cute little sundress by SugarLips…. such a fun print!  I was really impressed with the quality and the fit more than anything else.  I particularly loved that the straps were adjustable too (I hate droopy straps).  Add in the fact that the dress was fully lined and I was in sundress heaven!

Is it Denim or Chambray?

How to Wear Chambray

While denim is certainly a staple of my wardrobe…  I actually don’t have an opportunity to wear traditional denim to work very often.  Our dress is business casual, so traditional denim is a big no-no in the office.  Over time though, I have found some creative ways to work “denim like” looks into my professional wardrobe…. mostly by wearing chambray pieces instead.

How to Wear Chambray

Quick fact….  While chambray looks like denim (and in my opinion is equally as functional) it actually isn’t denim!  Chambray is a plain weave fabric that is comprised by a colored thread (usually indigo but can be any color) and complemented by a bleached horizontal thread. It is usually more light weight than denim, making it perfect for summer temps!

How to Wear ChambrayThis particular chambray blazer has become my version of the “professional” denim jacket!!  I literally throw it on with everything!!  It immediately gives my summer casual looks (like those cute little sundresses) a little more edge and professionalism at the same time – allowing me to leverage more of my closet for work!  The blazer itself is actually quite old.  I bought it from Loft several seasons ago.  I had a seamstress shorten the sleeves and that was it… been rocking it hard ever since!  The classic color and silhouette make it extremely versatile.

Color Crush: Mint Green

Zara JACQUARD TROUSERS

I have to be honest… I’ve had my eye on these pants for a LONG time. I’ve been crushing on a couple of colors this season… oranges, corals, greens and yellows. (Side note… I’ve yet to conquer all of them.  I’m still looking for a fab pair of yellow trousers…. so the mission continues!!).

Zara JACQUARD TROUSERS

Anyway, enter these mint green gems from Zara… Perfection. I have literally been stalking the Zara website for these trousers forever. At one point, I even had them in my checkout bag, just hanging out there, for days.  Turns out they hung out just long enough… to go on sale!!!! Yoo-hoo!!!

ZARA JACQUARD TROUSERS

So…. you know how the story goes. I had to get them. Couldn’t live without them. Yadda yadda yadda!!

Zara ACQUARD TROUSERS

I love the color. It’s a very soft, subtle and feminine shade of mint green.  And the texture is simply amazing. The texture itself adds another dimension to the entire look. I decided to add some additional feminine details and texture on top to give it equal balance.

I hope you all enjoyed the 4th of July holiday!!  It’s been a great long weekend!  Food, fun and fireworks!  Superb!  And the weather has been amazing here too… albeit a little warm… but I’m not complaining… I’ve actually been enjoying soaking up all of the sun lately!

Anyway, while I was in Puerto Rico, I had a chance to visit the Plaza Las Americas Mall.  It is the largest mall in the Caribbean and the 2nd largest in Latin America.  Quite honestly, it rivals many here in the states!  It was HUGE.  We visited there on 2 separate days and we still were not able to cover it all!  There were the usual brands of course, but lots of other brands and stores that aren’t located in the states.

Zara Short Sleeve Sweatshirt

Out of all, of course my favorite was Zara!!  (You guys know I am a Zara-aholic!)  And with no physical locations close to me, I can never pass up an opportunity to get into a store!  It also just so happened that they were in the middle of their amazing summer sale… so needless to say I did some pretty major damage!

Zara Short Sleeve Sweatshirt

This short sleeved graphic sweatshirt was one of my picks…  and one of my favorites too!  It’s great for a summer day out…  casual yet chic.  I decided to accessorize it with bold colors…  pops of orange and coral… the perfect hue for this summer.

Red, White and Blue

Red, White and Blue

Well,  I’m back lovelies!!  I’m sorry for being away for so long too.  It was somewhat unplanned.  I just got back from 2 weeks in Puerto Rico and while I did plan to take a small break from the blog while away, it ended up being much longer than I expected. The 2 weeks leading up to my time off was simply….  hmmm… how do I put this?…  BANANAS at work!!!!

I have not worked that hard in years!!!  I’m talking late nights and weekends!  Ugh!  I honestly did not have the mental capacity nor the energy to do anything else.  In fact I was so worn out that I completely unplugged while I was away… no Instagram, no Twitter, I didn’t even take a lot of photos.  I just wanted to relax, re-energize and enjoy the moments.  So… my apologies again for the lack of posting and for not keeping up with your blogs too over the past few weeks…  Hopefully you all understand!

How to Style Red, White and BlueAnyway, the good news is that I did have an amazing time in Puerto Rico!  And now I am well rested and back in full swing!!

Now… today’s look is actually from a few weekends ago.  I love tuxedo striped pants and picked up these navy ones from Ann Taylor.  I decided to keep it relatively simple, leveraging basic colors with a few statement pieces (enter shoes)!

Summer Hot – Black and White

How to Wear Black and White

The black and white trend is still going strong and this summer is absolutely no exception!  This classic color combo keeps getting reimagined each season.  Right now, it’s all about black and white pairings in graphic prints, larger than life stripes, bold geometric shapes and patterns, and so much more!!

How to Wear Black and White

To be honest, I’ve always loved black and white.  It is one of the best and most classic color combinations!  You simply can’t go wrong with it.  But I have to admit that I am really loving it even more with the modern twist that is going on right now! Dare I say…  that black and white is the epitome of chicness!!! You just can’t help but feel fabulous rockin’ these hues!

(Side note… did you notice I got subtly photo bombed above?? Geez…)

This was one of my looks from the weekend.  I wanted to have a little fun with the graphic tee and this black and white skater skirt from Topshop (which I LOVE btw….  it has pockets for goodness sakes and the coolest texture!!).

How to Wear Black and White

Styling Tip: Whether monochromatic or adding a pop of color, think about adding statement pieces to this classic combo, like shoes, a bag or other accessories.

Trend to Try: Blush Hues

How to Wear Blush Tones

One of my favorite new trends this summer is all of the gorgeous blush and nude tones that are available right now!  While my blogging journey has helped me to embrace and even love bold colors, my heart belongs with neutrals and nude tones – it always has.  Add that to my never dying love of pink and I am completely in love with all of the blush hues that are rockin’ the stores at the moment.

How to Wear Blush TonesTraditionally, I’ve always thought of blush tones being more so for fall but I am really liking this color in spring and summer too!  It’s such a feminine and girl power hue!  It’s perfect for flowy tops, dresses, skirts, pants… hmm… just about everything!

How to Wear Blush Tones

But the real appeal of the color is that it is so universally flattering.  There are so many variations that it is easy to find the exact shade that works best for you.  And don’t be fooled, this easy going shade can completely set off a look too.

How to Wear Blush Tones

Styling Tip: Blushes and nudes are great colors to wear from head to toe for a complete monochromatic look.  For a more edgy look, try adding a blush blazer to boyfriend jeans, a white tee and heels.

Summer Style: Skirt Edition

How to style a summer skirt

I am so glad that it is finally summer!  I know…  I know…  the “official” start of summer is not for another month or so but I don’t know… to me, once you hit the Memorial Day Weekend (which is just around the corner), it’s official!  Besides, the weather has been incredibly gorgeous lately and I have been enjoying every bit of it!

How to style a summer skirt

In fact, with all the warm weather,  I could not wait to pull out some sandals and put a little bit more leg action on display!!  You guys know that I go through phases and well, right now, I am definitely in a skirt phase!  Last summer it was all about shorts for me but for some reason, I am just not feeling them as much as I did last year!

How to style a summer skirt

Instead, it’s been all about super cute skirts (of all lengths)!  I am obsessed with maxi skirts but also with these cute little skater and bubble skirts too!! I actually picked up this skirt last year around this time from Zara.  It’s one of my faves because I can pretty much wear it year round and because it is extremely versatile!  I can style it for so many occasions!

How to style a summer skirt

Style Tip:  For a carefree chic look, style a skater skirt with flats or sandals and add on super cute accessories (like a clutch and/or lots of bangles).

Petal Pushers: Trousers in Full Bloom

How to Wear Florals

The floral trend has been going hard for quite a few seasons now…  In fact, I am beginning to wonder if florals are starting to move a little beyond a “trend”.  Hmmm…  we shall see.  In the meantime, I am glad that this bold print IS still going strong because it is the absolute embodiment of this time of year!

How to Wear Florals

Each season seems to bring a slight tweak to this print, keeping it modern, fresh and appealing.  For spring 2014,  it seems to be all about bold colors and blooms aplenty!!  And not only on tailored trousers, but on dresses, jumpsuits, blazers… even shoes!!  Who would’ve thought it ??

How to Wear Florals

Anyway, I grabbed up these trousers last fall from Zara in anticipation of this spring!  I was drawn to the color palette and I loved the femininity of the print too!

Style Tips: Neutralize a fun floral print trouser by pairing it with a white or nude color top.  Leverage a unique shape or proportion on top to balance the boldness on the bottom.
